Hello Zion Lutheran,
This Sunday is Pentecost! We will worship through zoom with virtual coffee hour after. Get into the spirit of the day by wearing red! Hang up a birthday banner and don a birthday hat. This is a great day to make/eat birthday cake too.

As you have seen on the news, white supremacy has rised to the surface again and this time hit very close to home. Monday night George Floyd was killed by the police in broad daylight with witnesses. And now the protests continue.
Zion’s response so far has been to put Black Lives Matter on our church sign and I now more than ever feel committed to continue our difficult honest work around white priviledge. In the short term,  today at 3-3:10PM, I, Pr CJ, will host a short prayer on the church lawn. Zion folks are welcome to show up as long as they wear a mask, practice physical distance and are well (not feeling sick). The church will not be open for bathrooms. If they would like, bring a piece of sidewalk chalk with them. It is ok not to come if they do not feel comfortable.
The Minneasota council of churches has 4 asks for our faith communities: presence, protest, prosecution and prayers. (You can read the full document here- https://www.mnchurches.org/blog/2020/05/27/how-long-o-lord)  There may be more ways Zion can show up in the days to come. In the meantime pray and participate as you are able.

Part of our worship plan for this summer will include a new bag of worship goodies for Zion members. YOU are invited to pick up your bag on the Zion courtyard (weather permitting) and bring your bike to be blessed for the summer on Thursday morning, June 4th, 10AM- noon or Saturday June 6th 10AM-noon. If neither of these times work for you or you prefer contact-less pickup- please let us know: cj@zionchurchmpls.org or tell your phone tree person.

For the foreseeable future, we will continue to worship virtually. Our council wants to be cautious and careful. We will keep you in the loop as we prepare to open things back up. If you have questions or comments- please talk to Pr CJ or any member of council.

We miss you!
Pr Cj, Vicar Jess and Josiah
