Blessing the Animals

“All Things Bright and Beautiful” were celebrated at Zion Lutheran Church in an evening service of Blessing the Animals. Friends and neighbors gathered with members of Zion to celebrate their pet companions.

We remembered our animal companions who are no longer with us physically, giving thanks for the gifts they gave us and the variety of ways they enriched and blessed our lives as we placed their name or picture on the altar praying: “O God of life, we are confident that you continue to care for them.” Pastor Eva blessed each companion pet that was present (or remembered with a photo or card) by name:

Our companions, beautifully made and loved by the Creator of all life, I bless you with God’s love, and bless you in all the love and joy that you share with your human companions.

We sang and prayed for the whole of creation and celebrated the many ways our lives are enriched by all that God has created and God’s love that sustains us always.
